Prints on Canvas Exhibition and Sales

An updated exhibition has been installed in the “Art Space” upstairs at the Lakes Entrance Visitor Information Centre in Marine Parade. The display features photographic images including local and regional scenes together with some images taken in a wide range of other locations including some from overseas, all have been printed onto quality 360gsm canvas which has been stretched over a wooden frame.  All are made and printed in Australia and are for sale. In varying sizes a perfect gift or great on the home or office wall. The Centre is open 9am to 5pm  7 days a week.

As the photographer, I keep the use of digital manipulation to a minimum preferring to present images as close as possible to that seen by the naked eye. Much as I enjoy the scope and versatility of digitally manipulating images, I also enjoy presenting an image which can be viewed as it really is in real life.

Once in a while I will delve into Photoshop and other manipulative programs and present an image a little out of left field, some of these will be added to the display. I also enjoy using black and white as a medium, although very unforgiving in some ways, it can present a more interesting image, not being influenced or softened by the presence of colour.

Seascapes and sunsets are some of my favourites, together with low light photography and recording various forms of transport.  My photography has minimal digital manipulation, images being taken “as it really is”, possibly a throwback to my initial photographic training.

Now being retired and having more time, it has rekindled a life-long hobby in photography, which was also a significant part of my working life from time to time.  My work and later owning a photographic business for 17 years almost killed the spark as a hobby, but now having more time I can enjoy it again.

I also enjoy writing food reviews on my blog, its a great excuse to eat out and about, and have a passion for vehicles, mainly older cars and motorcycles, some of which feature in my photography.

My photographic experience has come a long way since, aged 9 and as part of a Cub Scout badge; I managed to develop my first film from a borrowed Kodak Brownie 127 in a cupboard under the stairs at my parent’s home in England. Much later I trained in investigative and surveillance photography as part of my role in the Metropolitan Police London during the 1970’s and early 80’s.

After migrating to Australia in mid- 1982, I continued to utilise photography at work for some years as an insurance investigator. Then, turning a hobby into a business,  I opened a family owned and operated retail photographic business in 1987, which encompassed both the sales of equipment  and ancillary items, together with a full studio, and a commercial developing and printing Lab.  During this time I was engaged to teach basic SLR Photography at both Macedon Ranges Further Education and at Victoria University (Sunbury Campus).

Seeing the digital age fast approaching, I sold the family business in 2003, and after some time re-commenced the enjoyment of my photographic hobby and love of the outdoors moving to East Gippsland.  My work has been used for numerous presentation pieces, in magazines, brochures and websites. I was pleased to donate a selection of 20 images to Bairnsdale Regional Hospital Oncology Unit , and provided the centre-piece of the counter area in Westpac Bank in Lakes Entrance.

I enjoy the medium and effects of photographic prints on canvas, together with their simplicity of display, my displayed images are for sale.  Please pop into the Visitor Centre, I hope you enjoy the display.
