Cann River Cafe. 6 Princes Hwy, Cann River VIC 3890 Hours: 6am till 5pm daily
Located in the main street next to a small bakery (that is another blog), on the South side of the main street. Parking right outside and easy access inside. The cafe is a mix of cafe, local produce and gifts with a small garden setting to the side.
It is quaint with simple furniture but comfortable and ideal for a stop along the Princes Highway. Orders are taken at the counter and food drinks served to the table. There is nothing special here other than a clean country cafe serving simple food to the traveller. It has washrooms to the rear which are well appointed although not fully accessible. If this is required they are located just up the road next to the Community Centre.

Menu: This is a country cafe which I have used on many an occasion. The food range is country cooking and ideal for the traveller. Eat in or take away, coffee, cakes, biscuits, scones and slices in varying styles are all there. Cooked breakfasts all day, egg and bacon sandwiches, one of my favourites, or rolls, cooked to order. Soups and pies, foccacias, salad rolls, all the usual stuff and just what is needed to kill those hunger pangs on a trip. Don’t forget a range of drinks and ice creams for the little ones (and big ones too!), together with a good variety of lollies, (we, that is The Boss, bought three bags!) Jersey Creams, Licorice Allsorts and would you believe Freckles. can’t leave the Boss alone for a minute! Just for something to take home or away with you, a range of jams, chutneys, pickled onions (love them), and chillies are also available ready in jars, together with a range of souvenirs caps, bags, soft toys etc.

Experience: Lunchtime and the specials board included one of my favourites, chicken and sweetcorn soup, Ok that seemed ideal for a winters day and of course followed by an egg and bacon toastie all lubricated with a long black. A good travelling lunch. The soup came good and hot and generous serve packed with chicken pieces and plenty of tasty corn. It was very enjoyable and with a little black pepper added ( to my taste) it had a little kick to it. That is not a criticism, the soup was served as it should be with the customers option to add salt and pepper to taste. On the side two full slices of buttered bread. It was great to be asked which sort of bread I would like when ordering too. The boss was a little more conservative only joining me with the egg and bacon toastie. This was well filled with, yes, egg and bacon and plenty of it. Cooked with a little crisp on the edges and a just runny yoke of the egg. Service was quick and friendly as was the welcome we received almost as soon as entering the cafe. Coffees were hot and well made, my long black had a beautiful crema on the top and was just the thing to boost my cognitive ability!
