"Glad I went back for a Burger"

Location:  Prime location on the corner of Main and Nicholsen Streets in Bairnsdale, access has two steps and the entry at the side may be easier for those with any mobility issues, also “alfresco” seating in Nicholsen St with umbrella for shade. Seating is varied, benches along the back wall, (very comfortable and room to spread!), tables and chairs in the middle and stools at a bench at one end.  Wash room facilities at the rear of the cafĂ©, these are clean and well appointed. Service is either from the main counter or table service.  Group bookings taken.

Menu:  For all meals, the range is wide catering for all tastes including GF and Vegan options.  A full menu is available to view on line, I will leave that for you to explore. Kid’s meals are also available and are well thought out.
Experience:  Attentive service, tables well set, the ambience relaxing and comfortable. Water was provided almost immediately.  There is room to linger here, to relax and enjoy the faire provided. Ideal for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, I was there for lunch as I promised to return a month or so ago.

OK the” MR D” Burger, listed as angus beef, egg, bacon, lettuce, tomato, ketchup, mustard, kewpie mayo, pickles, Swiss cheese , Dench brioche bun, and fries. First I would advise you to be hungry as this is a very filling and substantial meal. Served on a platter style plate with a paper mug of fries on the side. The burger has to be held together with a skewer on service it is that high.  The beef patty itself was large, some would say huge, well-seasoned, juicy and cooked so as to give a slight char on the top and bottom adding to the flavour. The egg was still runny, the white solid and a hint of crispness on the edges. Two good sized full bacon slices, the edges and towards the streaky end crispy, the middle eye still just juicy. Now the combination of ketchup mustard and mayo was a really good twist and gave the entire burger a lift, and a hit of spice. Fresh lettuce, tomato and pickles, all there and still crisp and juicy complimented the other ingredients well.  The brioche bun, they seem to be the in thing these days, topped off this “Mr D” special, and I managed to finish the top on its own with some mayo ketchup and pickles.

As for the fries, well I would call them chips as they were too large to be called fries. Well-cooked not at all oily and with a slight crisp on the outside and soft centres, (sounds like chocolates doesn’t it). Down the bottom of the cup in which they were served there were some small crispy bits which I enjoyed crunching my way to finish off this filling and very satisfying meal.
As for value, well you get what you pay for (in most cases), this is one of those, not a cheap burger but I was happy to pay the $22, the ingredients were fresh, tasty and of good quality, serving size satisfied me totally and would be too large for some.

Summary:   I am glad that I returned to “Mr D”  to enjoy the “Mr D” burger and more good quality coffee, will be  happy to experience other menu items in the future.  The venue is clean, relaxed with pleasant attentive staff, and having a take away facility and on line ordering it provides a value for money service.
