Model World Maffra at Gippsland Vehicle Collection

Many will know my distinct liking for all things vehicle and boat, many of which have and still do get me in all sorts of bother with...you know who! I can usually stave off most of the bother with a good lunch (another one of my weaknesses !) and last Sunday was no exception. Lured by a visit to the Gippsland Vehicle Collection at the Maffra Shed by the Jaguar Car Club, (the good old Pommie stuff), we took a trip to Maffra.

The Jags may feature later, and the lunch (at Coffee House 138) has been featured already, but what about MODEL WORLD MAFFRA, this new addition to Gippsland's (if not Victoria's) best automotive museum and display facility. Yes, its all new, and a great asset to the already large collection at "The Shed", it has taken a while to establish and set up, but take my word for it, even yes "you know who" was impressed. Some of the best things in life take time, and the time spent in setting up this display has been well spent.

Model World itself is built in a new area at the rear of the main display area of the shed, and could be a worthwhile display on its own. Upon entering you walk into indeed a "Model World" with a massive and  professional display of pristine model cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles from all eras and vintages. Different scales, different themes, multiple colours, all expertly set out behind glass and superbly lit. One of the largest public displays in the Australia and right here in Gippsland.

I would hate to estimate the total number in this collection, but it is over 3500 items.  Models of nearly all Australian cars manufactured, many overseas marques, a display of  "V8 Supercar" models all in a range of scales including, 1:18 and 1:43 plus many many more. Model quality is concours, display clean cut and simple, its value to tourism in the area immense, and its worth immeasurable. This has to be one of, if not the the best model vehicle collections around, and certainly the best I have ever seen worldwide.

 As you wander down the walkways lined with display cases, your mind goes back to cars you once owned or saw on the streets, younger visitors were heard to ask their Dad, "did you drive one of those Dad ?", the response was a proud, "Yes I sure did", to older groups it obviously brought back memories of days gone by, with the occasional comment of "imagine having to dust all those".

Model World Maffra (MWM) is at the Gippsland Vehicle Collection  Maffra Shed, a pleasant drive, and a drive which will reward you with the enjoyment of seeing this new and professional display in a local museum. Take the kids, take the family, make a club outing, invite your visitors and friends, all ages will enjoy the visit, there is plenty of parking, BBQ's on site, and cafes just a minute or two down the road in Maffra. A great activity on a rainy day or for something different.
