Lakes Entrance is ideally placed to enjoy a number of scenic and panoramic views. Many (and I am one of those), enjoy watching the ocean from Bullock Island especially since its upgrade. But there are more views from Kalimna Hill, an area which includes the top of the hill itself (where the first new lookout is under construction) and higher from Jemmy's Point at the end of Lookout Road, and hopefully where a major viewing platform will be built. Another favourite is from the area opposite the Kalimna Hotel. Hope you enjoy this selection.

The weather conditions provide a ever changing range of colours and views of the lakes system which extends over 400 sq kms to the west. Below images (2) taken from Jemmy's Pt shows a water colour which is almost teal with dark clouds accentuating this colour and making a imposing image.

On a windy day in the height of summer the lakes can take on a brighter lighter hue, and the changes in water colour due to the tidal flows are evident as is the shallow water just outside the entrance in the formidable white water zone.
The panoramic image below taken from Jemmy's Point and looking out to Bass Strait combines the main Reeves Channel with entrances to both North and Cunninghame Arms and Hopetoun Channel. The image is so wide that the horizon takes in the curvature of the earth and is slightly bent.
In the opposite direction the lakes extend westward almost to the horizon
Dusk and sunset is a favourite time to take photographs over the lakes system. The colours change rapidly and provide a wide range of hues. The overhanging trees make for interesting framing which contrasts the sky as do the islands in the lake.
Taken from a lower level, ever present wildlife even boats can provide a focal point and some meaning to an otherwise stark seascape.
Reflections of the sky across the water add a sense of warming and serenity.

Few bother to explore the other side of the hill although many live there. It provides a chance to view the township of Lakes Entrance and to see its fragility being on a virtual sand-spit between two water masses.
The Gippsland Lakes a vast water-based playground for so many pursuits and providing all with spectacular scenery all the year round.
Enjoy
