Bullock Island one of the most popular locations in Lakes Entrance and, I would wager, East Gippsland. Its scenery, peace, relaxation and indeed fishing and crabbing so enjoyed by thousands of visitors and locals alike was dealt a debilitating blow in last nights Council meeting, despite the valiant and long standing efforts of our local representative, Cr. Dick Ellis. On the casting vote of our Mayor, a motion was defeated which would have put the management of the area into the hands of the Shire. This has huge implications for our town and should be re-visited without delay.

Time to put your money where your mouth is.......
The road toll has been in the news lately and more especially because this year it far higher than in previous years. Today it was reported to be at 104 that is 41 more than at the same last year. This is just under a 40% yes 40% increase.
Imagine the outcry is taxes were increased by the same amount. Yet the toll rises, and we as a society seem to brush it off until it affects you and your family or those close to you.

Where is Jemmys Point ? – perhaps not where many think.
Great news, announced today (March 9th)
that funding ($750,000) from Federal funds has been approved with matching
funds to come from East Gippsland Shire, to provide visitors and locals alike with a
new lookout. This is well overdue and will be a great asset to Lakes Entrance. It
is exactly the sort of project which will enhance and improve general tourism
in the area from which we can all benefit.
It will put us more firmly on the map, (yes people still use real maps),
provided of course that the projected lookout is located in the right place!

Smoke Sizzles n Snags at Gippsland Motorplex on Australia Day
Yet again the Gippsland Motorplex proved beyond doubt that is is a popular, well run sporting facility bringing countless thousands into the region and providing an outlet for locals to enjoy their love of cars and all things vehicular, while having a great family friendly day out. Despite Australia Day events and other Car Shows, Swap Meets, Tractor Pulls and the like being staged east of Melbourne, "Drags N Skidz" drew a large patriotic and enthusiastic crowd although still awaiting final figures.

"Throttle Stomp" - Gippsland Motorplex does it again BUT ....
What is Throttle Stomp? Well allow me to explain, on the weekend of 4th 5th and 6th January the Gippsland Motorplex brought the 2019 Throttle Stomp to their facility at the Bairnsdale Dragway site in Aerodrome Road Bairnsdale. This was a coming together of all things car and bike on tarmac and on dirt and featuring pre-1969 vehicles over three days. Throttle Stomp simply "stomp on the throttle" and see what goes....!

Model World Maffra at Gippsland Vehicle Collection
Many will know my distinct liking for all things vehicle and boat, many of which have and still do get me in all sorts of bother with...you know who! I can usually stave off most of the bother with a good lunch (another one of my weaknesses !) and last Sunday was no exception. Lured by a visit to the Gippsland Vehicle Collection at the Maffra Shed by the Jaguar Car Club, (the good old Pommie stuff), we took a trip to Maffra.

Coffee House 138 Maffra “ Clean Comfy Classic Café with Coffee, or Coffee with Cafe”
Coffee House 138 is at 138 Johnson Street, Maffra 3860 Ph: 03 5147 2220
Open: Mon- Fri 8am to 3-30pm. Sat & Sun 8-30am to 2-30pm
It is three years and a change of owner since my last review so about time for a new one. Towards the end of the main street in the country town of Maffra is Coffee House 138, street parking in the service road outside, close to the end of the shopping strip a bit easier to find, than in the middle of town. Access is good, al fresco seating outside under a wide veranda so you can sit at your leisure.14 Dec 2018
Paddle Boats are back too.........Great news !!
What a great week, with two of our towns iconic businesses being re-opened. Ferryman's Cafe on Thursday and I am advised that the Paddle Boats just over the Footbridge will be re-opening very soon having finalised the necessary paperwork today. All that has to be done is to return the boats and equipment to the site and check all the safety gear. Watch out for the big open signs, my best bet is by next weekend !
