Krauatangalung Walk Proposal - a response

Krauatangalung Walk Proposal – Response

In response to a request for feedback on the above-mentioned concept, below a brief resume of our combined thoughts and opinions.

The concept plan for Krauatangalung Walk appears to be a litany of oversights in community consultation, economic recovery impact, viability, detailed design and cost.

It fails

  1. ·        to have reference to any business case, nor any projection of its possible worth to the business community.
  2. ·        to take account local plans/guidelines already in place and adhered to by existing buildings etc.
  3. ·        There is no Environmental Effects statement tendered with the concept.
  4. ·        It would seem to contradict the will of Local Council. Our elected tier of local government
  5. ·        The scheme needs to pass in depth community scrutiny in the form of open transparent fully recorded public opinion

If LEADA is to be the project auspicer and coordinator for the federal government funding,

  • who will be the competent client team to run the project on time and on budget.
  • Who will be liable for cost overruns?

BID Inc. is of the opinion there are more cost-effective and locally beneficial areas where money, apparently allocated to this project can be spent and within the claimed time frame. BID Inc. further suggests that alternative locally based projects be supported and instigated for the benefit of the community as a whole.

  • What is LEADA’s legal status on the project?
  • Is LEADA liable for any shortfall etc.?
  • As LEADA appears to have engaged Ethos NRM, will LEADA be engaging other contractors, upon whose authority?

On the basis of the above BID Inc. is strongly against this concept and any further expenditure of public/community funds being spent in support of it. That said, as a local organisation BID Inc. stands ready to consider any changes or alternative concepts which will be economically beneficial to our town and to deliver fully considered local project concepts for full community and government review on a short timeframe.

For and on behalf of BID Inc.
