Give our local businesses a chance - Positive Thoughts.

Thinking Outside the square and just an idea:

Self Isolation Self distancing Minimal Contact etc etc. All good and its working BUT lets try and keep our local businesses going AND create some work.

Many local businesses are doing deliveries, some from Bairnsdale and from Lakes to many locations. Why not have central collection and collation bases where small local businesses can lodge their goods, to be delivered same day.

Those that are already delivering could make a roster of who delivers to where when so each takes the responsibility for each others products to arrive in good order. This would reduce the number of smaller separate deliveries making delivery more viable, possibly increase the range of goods able to be delivered.

All that is needed is a base in Bairnsdale and one in say Lakes Entrance, perhaps one each in Orbost and Paynesville. This would service the community more efficiently, more effectively, it would give our local businesses a better chance of survival and perhaps make a couple of extra jobs. Start small and see if it grows, who knows it may work so well it becomes permanant!

Perhaps we would need separate deliveries (vehicles) for food stuffs and general freight.  Don't get me wrong I am certainly not trying to undermine existing local delivery companies, as I understand it online purchases are keeping them pretty busy. This is designed for small deliveries which would otherwise not be viable. In any event this is based around food stuffs which they do not carry. It may extend to others aspects but lets keep it around food for starters.

Then a local website to list all the goods that are available with links to the individual businesses so orders can be made and payment taken.
As we go into Autumn and Winter this would service those who cannot get out and make life easier for those who don't want or need to. Less people on the road, less contact equals better chance to get rid of this virus quicker.

Those who wish to place an order leave clear signage OUTSIDE as to where to leave the goods with minimum fuss. Again no actual contact. I could go on but I think this sets the basis for something good and positive in an otherwise troubled time.

I hope this perhaps starts some constructive and positive thoughts concepts and workable plans.

Lets keep East Gippsland in Business -
give our local business a chance or survival.
